Mantle of the Expert

At Dogmersfield we use an approach to learning called ‘Mantle of the Expert’, where children are part of a fictional responsible team (for example a team of historical researchers) who are commissioned by a client to carry out different roles and responsibilities. In this way the children learn about real adult jobs and roles in a safe context. They encounter problems and tensions that could be encountered in real life. Taking on the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ means agreeing to be part of a team who can solve problems and who can help others. Children love this approach to the curriculum because it brings meaning to the subjects that they are learning about.
